Election Results: On May 10 and 11, 2007, the Illinois Labor Board held a representation vote to decide who would represent the sworn employees of the Springfield Police Department as their bargaining representative.

Of the 259 eligible voters, 236 votes were cast. The results are as follows:

PBPA Unit #5 - If chosen, the PBPA will continue to represent members for discipline matters as well as contract negotiations, and will continue to host social events for membership and their families.

149
Police Benevolent Labor Committee - If chosen, the Labor Committee will assume responsibility for negotiation for discipline matters and contracts, and Unit #5 may or may not continue existence as a social organization only. Unit #5 will only continue to exist if members choose to pay social membership dues in addition to their PBLC dues. Details are still incomplete at this time as to how this will work.

86
No representation - If chosen, sworn employees will have no organized representation for any matters. Unit #5 may or may not continue existence as a social organization only. Unit #5 will only continue to exist if members choose to pay social membership dues.

Please note that 1 ballot was not counted, as it was determined to be invalid.

We would like to thank everyone who supported Unit #5 during this tumultuous situation. Because of your willingness to take a stand in support of the PBPA and make an informed decision when casting your vote, you have allowed us to continue supporting the entire membership, both through representation with legal and disciplinary matters, as well as by hosting social activities for members and their families. With this matter settled, we can now move forward with contract negotiations with the City. Thanks for your support!

If you have any questions for Unit #5 regarding this matter, please contact any Board member.
